Reclaim These Streets has agreed that Rosa – the UK fund for women and girls – will manage the distribution of the funds that have been raised through the Reclaim These Streets JustGiving Crowdfunder, which currently stands at £525,909. The crowdfunder was set up to raise money for women’s charitable causes following the public outcry over women’s safety sparked by the death of Sarah Everard.
Rosa is the only UK charitable funder dedicated to supporting women’s and girls’ organisations in the UK, including those addressing the causes and consequences of male violence and access to justice. These organisations are at the heart of everything Rosa does. It involves them in all aspects of its work to ensure resource reaches where it’s most needed and can make the biggest difference for women and girls.
Rosa and Reclaim These Streets would like to thank the public for their generous donations to the crowdfunder. We know these donations were made in response to the awful recent events and the countless other incidents where women and girls have been scarred by violence and harassment. We will do everything we can to honour that. We will use this money to reach organisations working to change and save women’s and girls’ lives. In the coming days, the JustGiving Crowdfunder page will be redirected so that any further donations will be made directly to Rosa – which, as a registered charity, will make those donations eligible for Gift Aid.
Rosa’s approach centres on transparency, participation and partnership. This means the grants awarded will be informed by the needs and experiences of women and girls, particularly those most at risk of harm. This approach takes time. In the coming weeks, Rosa will be working with organisations from across the women and girls sector, and others, to ensure these donations have the biggest impact possible. If you have donated to the crowdfunder, you will be notified of key developments along the way. We will also share updates via Rosa’s website and Reclaim These Streets’ social media accounts.
Rosa and Reclaim These Streets are grateful to everyone who has taken action to make violence and harassment against women and girls a global conversation over the past few days. Whether through donations, sharing stories or standing up for change – you are making a difference. Rosa will now do everything in its power to make sure that the money you have raised will improve women’s and girls’ lives. We hope that you will keep championing this issue, so that together we can end violence and harassment against women and girls.
