Nearly £800,000 awarded in new grants through Rosa’s Rise Fund

Rosa is proud to announce that 22 organisations have received grants of up to £40,000 over two years through the second round of Rosa’s Rise fund. This fund invests in the future of organisations led by and for Black and racially minoritised women and girls across the UK.

Black and racially minoritised women’s and girls’ organisations offer sisterhood, safety and support to women and girls across the UK, whilst also addressing systemic racial inequalities. Through the Rise Fund, Rosa supports work that helps these organisations to strengthen, develop and grow, such as investing in strategy, governance, leadership, alliances and partnerships, demonstrating impact and systems and processes.

What Rise grants are funding

For example:

  • £40,000 has been awarded to Empower Women for Change, based in Glasgow, to support partnership work, fundraising and processes such as impact reporting.
  • £25,012 has been awarded to London social enterprise KINSIS for support with communications and marketing.
  • £39,126 has been awarded to African Women’s Health Group in Sheffield to focus on governance and systems, and for staff and trustee training.

At Rosa, we believe a thriving network of Black and racially minoritised-led women’s and girls’ organisations brings us closer to our vision of a society where women and girls are safe, healthy and equal. These organisations have a rich history of empowering individuals and communities, collectively campaigning on issues of racism, sexism and poverty as well as discrimination due to disability, sexuality, and immigration status. History shows us that this activism drives real and lasting change.

What Rise grant holders say

This grant means more than just funding , it represents recognition, hope and possibility for the women we walk alongside every day, many of whom have faced unimaginable trauma and exclusion.

[Rosa’s] support will allow us to take an important step forward: to build stronger foundations, plan sustainably and ensure that the voices of the women we serve continue to shape our future.

Folashade Alonge, Founder & CEO, De Butterfly CIC, Manchester

This funding will not only contribute to uplifting the underserved in our communities, it will give WODIN the tools we need to fundraise more effectively, collate data to showcase our impact, support staff time and our organisational costs through these economic times which is particularly special.

What the Rise Fund has achieved so far

We know that investing in organisational development really pays off. Our evaluation of the first round of the Rise Fund, awarded in 2021, showed that for every £1 invested in organisational development, grant holders raised £2.07 in additional funding.

Grant holders reported the funding helped them to develop stronger foundations, to develop leadership and strategic planning, to improve their operations, and build stronger networks, enabling them to support over 12,000 women and girls.

The Rise Fund gave me time, which helped us to grow. The capacity the funding has given me to develop not only myself but the organisation as well – that’s where the impact has been.
