Rosa’s Covid-19 Fund for BME Women’s Organisations

The Emergency Response Fund for BME Women’s Organisations is a partnership fund between Imkaan and Rosa. It gave grants to 27 organisations led ‘by and for’ Black and minoritised women working to end violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Organisations could apply for one of the two types of grants available through this fund:

  • Grants of up to £35,000 for BME women-led refuge providers
  • Grants of up to £20,000 for BME women-led organisations providing services that work to end VAWG.

These organisations are often supporting women with a range of issues impacting their lives. These include work and employment, poverty and destitution, insecure housing, migration status, mental and physical health, severe isolation and poor access to services.

Findings from our research and that of the UK women’s sector helped to shape this fund. This research includes our joint survey with Women’s Resource Centre and Women’s Fund for Scotland, and Imkaan’s position paper on the impact of VAWG and Covid-19 on Black and ninoritised women and girls.

Read our impact report for key themes and issues raised by funded organisations. Visit our Covid 19 Response impact page for videos and interviews with the organisations we funded.

Fund Status: Closed

Application Deadline: 22/06/2020

Grant Sizes: Up to £35,000

We know that Black and minoritised women’s and girls’ organisations are on the frontline and have been severely impacted by the lack of resources to meet current demand.

While this is a response fund rather than a sustainability fund, we recognise organisations will be reflecting on how to adapt their work in the long term. Rosa and Imkaan will continue to think collaboratively about the necessary long-term sustainability for Black and minoritised women’s organisations addressing VAWG.
