Miranda’s Story

Miranda Bertram

Miranda died on 1 June 2020, a year after being diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer, at the age of 39. She was a mother to Humphrey, Hester and Heath, a wife to Jack, and a beloved sister and daughter.

She was an exceptional friend. Her career moved between her passions for the arts, equality, communications and people. As a fervent feminist, after many years in television and theatre she was involved in the launch of the Women’s Equality Party. After this, Miranda worked as a public speaking coach, mentor and specialist in story-telling.

Her husband, Jack explains: “She helped people, particularly young women, to find their voice and their story.  She had an extraordinary and colourful presence, a sharp mind, quick wit, easy smile and dynamic energy.

Rosa is an incredible organisation. They’re a small, but expert team delivering outsized, national impact by supporting women and girls to achieve change. The funds Rosa raise go directly to women-led organisations with lived experience of the issues that matter most right now. Miranda would have been proud to be associated with them.”

Miranda truly believed in the potential of women and so, to honour her memory and to celebrate her life, Jack decided to fundraise in aid of Rosa.

The Miranda Bertram Award

The funds raised by Miranda’s family and friends have gone towards the creation of The Miranda Bertram Award. This is an annual award made through Rosa’s Voices from the Frontline programme, given to an organisation whose work Miranda would have loved to support. Voices from the Frontline supports grassroots activism and campaigning and so, by funding this programme, Miranda’s family and friends are supporting the next generation of feminists, campaigners and activists.

We are delighted to announce that Wonder Foundation was awarded The Miranda Bertram Award in 2024.
