New Government-funded project to improve VAWG evaluation capacity

Rosa and London Metropolitan University are working on a new joint project, funded through the Cabinet Office’s Evaluation Accelerator Fund (EAF). The project, Building the evaluation capability of specialist, place-based frontline VAWG organisations, is designed to improve the evidence base around Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).

This project aims to strengthen the evaluation capability of smaller, specialist, women-led VAWG organisations in England to improve the evidence base supporting the Government’s VAWG Strategy and Action Plan. In partnership with the Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit (CWASU) at London Metropolitan University, the project will work with a cohort of ten women-led organisations, to analyse existing data, identify common outcomes and gaps to co-produce a shared outcomes framework.

Improving evaluation

Through peer learning, networking, training and mentoring, everyone involved will build skills and share expertise. At the end of the project, a new framework, guidance and insights will be shared with policymakers, commissioners, funders and the wider VAWG sector.

Thanks to the following organisations for working with Rosa on this project: 4Wings Northwest CIC, Apna Haq, Ella’s Home, Integrate UK, Kurdish and Middle Eastern Women’s Organisation, Maa Shanti Ltd, Rochdale Women’s Welfare Association, Sheffield Working Women Opportunities Project, Sophie Hayes Foundation and Support After Rape and Sexual Violence Leeds (SARSVL).

One of Rosa’s goals is to strengthen the network of frontline VAWG organisations across the UK. We know existing outcomes frameworks don’t always capture the impact that smaller, specialist organisations make . These organisations are providing lifesaving support in communities across the UK, but they are doing so under growing strain — with shrinking budgets, rising complexity of need and demand for services continuing to outstrip capacity.

This new analysis and framework will help more organisations evidence their impact, unlock funding and sustain the specialist support women and girls rely on. Ultimately, it will help ensure frontline VAWG services are better equipped to meet escalating demand in communities across the UK.

Academic partnership

London Metropolitan University’s Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit will be the academic partner for the project.

We are incredibly proud to partner with the Rosa Fund, expert VAWG evaluation mentors and researchers, and all participating organisations on this important work. Violence against women and girls affects women and girls from all walks of life and place-based specialist women’s organisations offer life-saving support for survivors.

We are excited to learn from the expertise of participating organisations about how violence has impacted the women and girls they support and the difference their work makes, as well as share what we have learnt in our forty year history about how best to evidence this difference for funders and the wider community.
