Established in 2006, Argyll and Bute Rape Crisis runs a centre to provide dedicated support services to survivors of rape and sexual violence in the Argyll and Bute area. Its support services include counselling, a telephone helpline, advocacy and group support.

What they’ve done with the funding from Rosa

Through the Voices from the Frontline fund, Rosa supported the campaign “As good as your word”, which highlights how persistent use of language reinforces gender stereotypes, and is damaging to women and girls. This involved creating a series of DVDs which illustrate the negative ripple effect of sexist and anti-feminist language, showing how language can be used positively to bring about change.

Nicola Hall, Manager of Argyll and Bute Rape Crisis explains:

“Rosa’s funding has been an amazing opportunity for ABRC and we feel proud to have been selected as a beneficiary, funding has enabled us to undertake projects we have been dreaming about for a long time.  By receiving funding from Rosa we feel very connected to the wider violence against women agenda which is incredibly motivating and empowering.

We believe that by visibly campaigning we have successfully raised awareness of the issues faced by women and girls exponentially.  We have seen a change before our eyes, before … we experienced resistance within the community to accept the issues were relevant in our area, but now we have definitely noted a change, with far more people able to express support, understanding and outrage at the issues women and girls can face.”
